Nate, I think Teresa said once you liked Dan Deacon...so I thought I'd post this up here....
http://pitchfork.com/tv/#/episode/116-dan-deacon/1

It's dan in the studio showing how he made his new album. I've only watched the first two, but they were quite good. The second one where they show the piano is pretty sweet to see how they did things. There's so much crazy stuff going on. Definitely a good watch if you have the time...looks like a hell of a studio session.

Just read about this on pitchfork. Jack White's new side project (i guess thats what you'd call it)

The Dead Weather...Jack plays drums and sings.

I dig the songs on their website:

I surprisingly like it too. I wasn't too keen on the two singles but the rest is really good. It's definitely a lot different in certain ways to their last two albums.

me three. I haven't listened to it as much as I should be - I'm trying to wait until it gets closer to the release date. I like it quite a bit though.

meh, i don't care for it much. i'm all for bands evolving and changing but this is too different in the areas that i liked about the yeah yeah yeahs. also it reminds me of 80's synth pop which i didn't like all that much the first time.

It came out on Tuesday.

I think the two singles are the weakest for sure and the most like 80's synth pop.

I hate pitchfork reviews, they're stupid. I only use them for their news.

thats right, it did come out early because of the leak. I need to find a proper rip of it.

I've been listening to the new Animal Collective cd. I can see why they're a good band, but I can't for the life of me get into them, maybe a song or two here and there. I'm also not a big fan of how the album was mixed, it sounds like crud in some spots. Almost sounds like it was recorded live and then they jsut tried to throw some extra stuff in when they mixed it in post.

I downloaded a Kills album to check them out...awesome. I'm quite impressed.

Also, I read about these guys in RS, they got a good review, they're from NOLA, and they play real instruments...kind of reminds me of Outkast. They're worth checking out...not really your normal crunk rap bullshit.

I think Jamie might have played me one of their albums once, but I can't remember.

I know, its horrible.

I grabbed a few more albums this weekend, but haven't listened to them yet.

I can't seem to find that one Bza, I grabbed

No Wow
Cheap and Cheerful Remixes
Midnight Boom
Black Balloon Ep

...this weekend, Black Balloon was the first one I grabbed, and have only listened to that. I think its an itunes release, it has a cover of Patsy Cline - Crazy on it though, I'm always a sucker for that song.

I went nuts downloading albums this weekend. Was grabbing a bunch of old stuff I haven't listened to in awhile and a bunch of stuff for Jim. I downloaded 11 U2 albums because I feel I judged them unfairly in the past so I thought I'd test them out again since the new album is kind of ok. I still don't trust Bono, but we'll see.

Honestly, how can you take this guy seriously. I mean, first of all, its rude to wear sunglasses inside...I might be able to overlook that, but the fact that they're pastel, give me a break! Buy black sunglasses...maybe a tortoise shell plastic rim if you're wearing a suit or a nice outfit, but not pastel. The guy isn't on ecstasy and he's not raving, he's talking to world leaders wearing pink sunglasses. Mad

I'm not sure if you some of y'all will like this, but

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_Kb80kK7wE

This is a new band I just discovered. Very folksy, delicate. But cute and catchy.

Also on my recently downloaded list:

Q-Tip - The Renaissance
Ray LaMontagne - Gossip Grain
Citizen Cope - whole discography
Toots and the Maytals - old reggae, so good.
Sophie Madeleine - cute girl with a ukelele. haven't listened to it all yet.
Avett Brothers - Emotionalism (this is my fav band right now)
Lady Sovereign
Manu Chao - all spanish, but good. maybe i just like it because i listened to it in mexico, but i like it.
mississippi john hurt - old 20s/30s blues. i've been on an old blues kick. he's so awesome. one of his songs he talks about killing his girlfriend.

my recently downloaded list:

the gories - 1990 detroit garage punk
pearl jam - ten (legacy edition)
bon iver - kinda sounds like the dude from tv on the radio singing iron&wine songs
king khan & bbq show - more garage rock stuff but circa 2005
white rabbits - standard NY indie rock but with 2 drummers
n.w.a. - pure f-ing gangsta rap
jay reatard - aside from an awesome name, i don't know too much about this dude yet
the dodos - indie rock with weird rhythms
the zombies - straight up psychedelic rock from 1968
